Vision

The most precious resources we have are our children. Planning their future can be confusing and many people get caught up in getting into a particular school, or program. At Guiding Consulting the focus is on the student and to present all the options that will best support their talents and passions.

About Me

Jillian In Work Mode

Jillian Nowicki

I was raised in Elgin IL, where I currently reside with my husband and two wonderful children. As a mother of two kids who will begin high school in the next few years, I focus a lot of energy on preparing them to succeed. It can be overwhelming and I realized I want help assist others who are undergoing similar circumstances. With the encouragement and backing of my loved ones, I began a second career in educational consulting.

Experience

I went to college in Colorado after starting my first two years at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. I received my Social Work degree from Colorado State University. I received a Masters in School Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado before I became a School Counselor in Wheaton, IL where I counseled thousands of students and families from 2003-2020.

The following are just a few of the roles and responsibilities I had as a School Counselor

  • Assisted students in selecting courses that set them up for success
  • Worked with students to come up with plans for after high school
  • College: 4 year/Community/Technical
  • Military
  • Work
  • Finding colleges for students that lined up with their coursework, GPA, test scores, major area of study, special circumstances, activities and location
  • Helping students navigate the the application process
  • Preparing students for college visits
  • Advocated for students with 504 Plans and IEP’s
  • Collaborated with our deans when discipline was required for my students

Appreciation for School Counselors

As a former School Counselor I have the utmost respect for the critical role that School Counselors play in their buildings. Times have changed dramatically over the years and the demand put on School Counselors and Educators as a whole is overwhelming. I provide private consultancy because I know how a caseload of 300 students (more for many School Counselors) is challenging. The vast majority of School Counselors time can be consumed by the students experiencing social and emotional issues. Combined with a heavy caseload School Counselors are rarely able to spend as much time as they would like with each student and family.
